An Artificial Flower Can Be As Beautiful

An artificial flower exudes as much charm as fresh cut flowers. Moreover, artificial flowers are cheaper and though made of silk, paper and latex, the first material is the most popular. Latex is heavy at times and paper runs chances of tearing easily.

Silk is light and durable and adds a special elegance to your décor. No doubt nowadays, every one is opting for silk artificial flowers for wedding decorations. Delicate flowers like roses are well imitated in silk. Further, textured silk is good for hydrangeas and peonies. Another variety, the matte finish silk can be used for highlighting the veins of artificial flowers to give it a more original look. Latex is good for replicating tropical flowers.

Artificial Flowers - Need less attention

An advantage of artificial flowers is that it needs minimum care. Artificially made flowers of polyester can be cleaned with warm water and detergents and rinsed in cold water afterwards. Silk flowers can be kept clean by putting the flowers and some salt in a grocery paper bag and shaking it. The salt will take the dust off the flowers.

Artificial flowers have been a popular decorative item amongst ancient civilizations like the Chinese, South American, the Egyptians and the Romans. Varied objects have been used like rice paper, painted linen, stained horn, silver, gold, bird feathers and even silkworm cocoons.

There are four main processes to making artificial flowers:

 •  Firstly, fabrics and materials are cut to give shapes of leaves and petals.
 •  Secondly, with a die the veins of the leaves are impressed and the petals are given forms and curves.
 •  Next the petals and other parts are assembled
 •  Finally, the flower is supported on a stem made of brass or iron wire and suitably wrapped to give a complete look.

If you follow these steps carefully, together with some professional help at the beginning your own hand made artificial flowers will not be a distant dream.
